Marble Machines for Hong Kong Maker Faire 2019

Design of an educational framework and specific construction guidelines for students to build their own marble machines.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

CAPSTONE PROJECT
Master of Design (Interaction Design), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 2019.

PURPOSE
Education in Hong Kong is characterized by extreme competition, heavy workloads and immense pressure on students to achieve good test scores and admittance to high-ranking schools. This focus on learning outcome over learning process results in lack of active student engagement and intrinsic motivation to learn. How can we improve the learning experience through maker education?

CONCEPT
A collaboration of multiple school to construct a system of interconnected marble machines for exhibition during Maker Faire Hong Kong 2019. Every participating school will have their students build one marble machine. The marble machines will then be transported to the venue and connected with additional tracks.

SCOPE OF WORK
Research, Concept, Construction, Testing; Facilitator of creative process;  Knowledge sharing.
